Tibetan rugs are distinctive in that they are hand knotted using a different method than others of that type do. However, with modern methods and technologies infiltrating their traditions…mainly because it costs less and is faster…some aspects of their processes in many of their workshops are now handled by machines, especially for spinning their yarn from the wool and silk, and for trimming the pile after the hand knotting is completed.. All Tibetan rugs use their own country’s wool though may use additional wools for certain patterns and dyes. The prices are very competitive and typically make use of wool, wool and silk combinations, banana fiber or hemp.
