Before the days when most mold making shops were equipped with a real industrial dust collection system, there were some almost comical and sad cases of toolmakers trying to filter out the grit and graphite.
One man I knew had a huge handlebar moustache, complete with wax. He also had a mullet and wore cut off green surgeons tops. What a character! In order to wear his particle mask, you know, the kind with white fabric over you mouth and little elastics around your head, he had to cut little holes in the sides so his moustache would not get bent!
He looked utterly ridiculous! He is the same guy who piped up in a shop meeting to say his piece. In order to make himself sound more authoritative, he mentioned that such and such was always done in the 15 shops he had worked in. Oops!
Nowadays, the air is much cleaner, the shop surfaces cleaner, and people are just a little bit happier on the job!
